Tetra Pak Expands AI-Powered Food and Beverage Carton Sorting to Scotland with Latest 2025 Investment
Tetra Pak has completed the final phase of its 2025 investment program by installing AI-powered optical sorting technology at Levenseat Resource Management’s materials recycling facility in Central Scotland, marking the first such deployment in Scotland. Developed in partnership with British start-up Recycleye, the Recycleye QuantiSort® system uses AI and cameras to identify and separate beverage cartons from mixed waste, improving recycling efficiency. This upgrade follows earlier installations at UK sites in Hartlepool and Carlisle, bringing Tetra Pak’s total UK sorting infrastructure investment in 2025 to £1.4 million. The technology enhances recycling capabilities across several Scottish regions and supports Tetra Pak’s broader £34 million annual global efforts to improve carton collection and recycling. Officials from Tetra Pak UK, Recycleye, and Levenseat highlighted this project as a key step towards a circular economy and a sustainable future for carton recycling in Scotland and the UK.
