Stora Enso Completes Divestment of 12.4% Swedish Forest Holdings
Stora Enso has finalized the divestment of approximately 175,000 hectares of forest land, representing 12.4% of its total Swedish forest holdings, for an enterprise value of EUR 900 million (SEK 9.8 billion). The transaction, first announced in May 2025 and completed in Q3 2025, involved the formation of a new forestry company where a MEAG-led consortium holds 44.4%, Soya Group holds 40.6%, and Stora Enso retains a 15% ownership stake. A 15-year wood supply agreement, extendable by another 15 years, ensures continued access to raw materials for Stora Enso’s Swedish operations. The company will also provide forest management services under a separate agreement. The divestment is expected to reduce Stora Enso’s net debt by EUR 790 million and decrease annual adjusted EBITDA by approximately EUR 25 million, supporting its financial stability and strategic focus on renewable packaging.
