Sofidel France Investing €14 Million to Modernize Roanne Tissue Plant with Sustainability Focus

Sofidel’s French subsidiary is investing €14 million to modernize its Roanne tissue plant, originally established in 1985. The upgrade includes a newly delivered Yankee cylinder and plans for installing self-consumption photovoltaic panels to reduce the site’s carbon footprint by approximately 1,200 tons of CO2 annually. The company is also exploring construction of a biomass boiler to achieve near carbon neutrality. Since acquiring the plant in 2010, Sofidel has enhanced production lines and expanded storage capacity. In 2023, Sofidel signed a decade-long contract with Engie to supply biomethane sourced from nearby production, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, low-carbon manufacturing at Roanne.
