Michigan AG Reaches Settlements with White Pigeon Paper Mill Owners Over PFAS Environmental Violations

The Michigan Attorney General's Office announced settlements with Ox Paperboard WP and White Pigeon Mills, current and former owners of the White Pigeon paper mill, over repeated violations of environmental laws involving PFAS contamination. Following a 2024 lawsuit filed by AG Dana Nessel, the companies faced allegations of improper wastewater discharges containing PFAS, a persistent group of toxic chemicals linked to serious health risks. Ox Paperboard will pay $95,200 in civil penalties and cover legal costs, while committing to cleanup efforts including closing a wastewater lagoon and addressing contaminated water on the mill property. These settlements aim to reduce PFAS pollution and safeguard the White Pigeon River, reinforcing Michigan’s commitment to environmental protection and holding polluters accountable.
