DS Smith and BSH Nazarje launch sustainable corrugated packaging, replacing EPS for Bosch mixers
DS Smith, a leading fibre-based packaging provider, has partnered with Slovenia's BSH Nazarje, part of the BSH Home Appliances Group, to introduce a sustainable packaging solution for Bosch hand mixers. The collaboration eliminates expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) inserts, replacing them with fully recyclable corrugated cardboard, dubbed the Safe Shell. This innovation not only accommodates three different mixer models for flexible production but could also remove up to 340,000 EPS pieces annually—significantly reducing plastic waste. Safe Shell optimizes packing, supports speedy assembly, and integrates seamlessly with existing Bosch logistics, requiring no major adjustments. The design enhances durability for transport and supports circular economy goals. DS Smith, recently acquired by International Paper, underscores its commitment to sustainability in North America and EMEA. The company also unveiled cardboard trays for automotive headlights, reinforcing innovation in eco-friendly packaging.
