DS Smith and Alpine Water Create Sustainable Corrugated Packaging for Hallstein Glass Bottles

DS Smith and Alpine Water have partnered to develop an innovative fiber-based packaging solution for Hallstein, the artisan mineral water brand, enhancing the protection and sustainability of glass bottle shipments. Utilizing corrugated cardboard, the new transport box replaces the previous polyethylene-dependent design, accommodating six 750ml bottles per box and scalable to larger consignments. DS Smith used its Circular Design Metrics (CDM) and Value Tool to assess and optimize circularity, carbon footprint, materials efficiency, and supply chain logistics. The result is a fast, easy-to-assemble, robust packaging that doubles production line output, reduces costs, and offers significant space savings while promoting recyclability and brand visibility. Rigorous safety testing assures protection during transit, meeting the demands of both local and international e-commerce customers. The solution aligns with Alpine Water’s drive towards sustainability and circular economy principles, benefiting the full supply chain.
