Borregaard Faces Temporary Production Disruption at Sarpsborg Facility Impacting Speciality Cellulose Shipments

Borregaard ASA experienced an unexpected outage at its Sarpsborg site affecting a key chemical used in speciality cellulose production, leading to restricted output of standard-grade speciality cellulose and shipment delays. Production of other biorefinery products, including lignin-based biopolymers, bio-vanillin, bioethanol, and cellulose fibrils, continued without disruption. The company collaborated with internal and external experts to resolve the issue swiftly and reduce customer impact. As a result, Borregaard now expects 3rd quarter speciality cellulose deliveries to reach approximately 30,000 tonnes, down from the initial forecast of 35,000 to 38,000 tonnes. The incident is estimated to negatively affect the Group’s 3rd quarter EBITDA by NOK 40-50 million. Borregaard remains focused on restoring normal operations and maintaining supply reliability for its speciality cellulose customers.
