Ahlstrom’s Biomass Boiler Investment at Rottersac, France Propels Major Decarbonization Drive, Slashing Emissions 80%
Ahlstrom, a global leader in sustainable fiber-based specialty materials, has announced a transformative investment in a biomass boiler at its Rottersac site in France, driving forward its decarbonization agenda. The new installation is set to reduce site emissions by approximately 80%, eliminating an estimated 34 kilotons of CO₂ annually—equivalent to removing over 21,000 passenger cars from circulation. This project, which begins preparations in 2025 with operations scheduled to start by 2029, aligns with Ahlstrom’s Science Based Targets initiative and its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Serving as a flagship hub for food packaging, the Rottersac site’s upgraded energy system embeds safety, sustainability, and circularity into product design, directly responding to rising customer demands for low-carbon solutions. The investment reinforces Ahlstrom’s commitment to innovation, responsible resource use, and bold climate action, further strengthening its position as a Preferred Sustainable Specialty Materials Company for global stakeholders.
